December 29, 2018

I really can’t believe how fast this year went. Time just seems to be going fast and time seems to wait for no one. Looking back at 2018 I can say it has been the toughest year I have experienced in my adult years so far. There were so many days I felt down, but staying positive and being grateful has kept me going. Through it all, I think it’s safe to say I have learned a few things from this year. So, I have put together seven of the most valuable lessons.

1. Work hard

At the start of 2018, I made a list of goals I wanted to reach by the end of the year. I’m currently sitting here and I am happy to say I met all of my goals. What this tells me firstly is that I need to set higher goals for next year,  and secondly, hard work certainly pays off. Another thing I would say is that working hard requires determination and making sacrifices. To say the least, It's definitely not easy but sticking to what you believe in and never giving up goes a long way.

A quote by Thomas Jefferson says:

If you want something you have never had, you must be willing to do something you have never done."

2. Be kind to yourself

We live in a crazy and hard world but the reality of it is that everyone is just trying to be the best they can be.  A lot of times I can be my own worst critic, but I’m going to try and be a little kinder to myself next year. I am an advocate of doing things that make you happy. For many years I have put others first but now I know the value of putting myself first and making myself a priority without having the feeling of guilt. Henceforth, I am going to give myself pats on the back when I do things I’m proud of.

3. Never give up

Have you ever put so much effort into something and it didn’t work out?  well, I have. There is nothing worse than the feeling of disappointment you get when things don’t work out the way you want them to. However, I am a big believer in trusting the timing of your life. I have a strong belief that everyone has their own timing, and what you may want now may not happen because it wasn’t the right time. Don’t ever be discouraged, and don’t let failure get you down. If something doesn’t work out try again and again until it does. Never give up on yourself.

4. Make plans ahead

I mentioned this in ‘Time Management’ post, where I talked about how I manage my time by keeping a diary which allows me to focus on things that are of priority.  Honestly, I hate the feeling of being unproductive and wasting time, so I spend a little time each day planning for the days/ weeks and months ahead. This has improved my life both personally and professionally.

5. Forgive quickly (Life is too short)

I know this can be easier said than down, but one of the hardest lessons I’ve learnt this year is how short life can be. It can be hard to forgive but I have come to the realization that once you do it, you actually feel a lot better and everything else ends up going smooth. I strongly believe in giving people second chances. If you want to give someone a second chance, don’t hesitate in doing so, because life is too short.

6. Do something outside of your comfort zone

Oh Boy! This one right here is something I can put my hand up and say I did so well this year. To be honest most of the lessons on the list have been inspired by me pushing myself out of my comfort zone. Life can get very hard for most of us and most time it’s not enjoyable to do things that are outside of the norms, but the experience you get is invaluable. This year I can say that my self-confidence has increased. This is not to say I am great at every single thing I do but knowing that I gave everything my best shot makes me feel reassured.

7. Live a life of gratitude

A whole year has flown by and I really feel like I haven’t taken enough time to just appreciate how good it was. It is very important to always take time at the end and really just appreciate all the good things that have happened. In 2019 I want to spend a little bit more time reflecting and celebrating the good things as they happen throughout the year.

I want to use this moment to say a massive thank you to all my readers. Thank you for sticking by me and showing me so much LOVE!!. I really enjoy sharing my thoughts and experiences with you all. I'm looking forward to what 2019 has to offer and I pray it will be a great year for us all.

Love always Xox Testyles!
